Get High Security Number Plates by October 13 or Risk going Jail:
The state transport department plans to crack down on vehicles that don’t have a high security number plate from next month. Now onwards, new vehicles will come with these high security number plates. However, most of the old vehicles do not have these sophisticated plates. According to an estimate by the State Transport Department, there are close to 40 lakh vehicles, including both four-wheelers and two-wheelers, that do not have high security number plates.
Why do you need High Security Number Plates?
These are made of aluminium and have reflective tapes. These number plates are tamper-proof. A chromium-based and self-destructive hologram is hot stamped on the plate, apart from a sticker with the vehicle’s engine, chassis number and laser-branding of a 10-digit permanent identification number. This will help in protecting the vehicles against theft.
The Supreme Court had asked vehicle owners in various Union Territories and States to get these plates on their vehicles, back in 2012. However, this time implementation of that order is mandate. For that, the Court has ordered a sentence of three-month jail or a fine of Rs 500.
When the process of getting High Security Number Plates will start?
The process will begin from October 02, 2018. For this, a software is being developed which will soon become operational. The software will let you upload the high security number plate on your vehicles; and, pay the fees online.
How can you get High Security Number Plates:
- 13 special centres are opened near RTOs; where you can get high security number plates for your vehicle.
- You will have to apply online for this. And, payment will also be online. The portal will go live on October 02, 2018.
- You will get an appointment for a particular date and time. On that particular date & time you will have to go to the Centre to get the high security number plate fix on your vehicle.
Fees for getting High Security Number Plates?
The fee for getting these number plates on a:
- four-wheeler is INR 213.00
- two-wheeler is INR 67.00
Colour Stickers to Identify the fuel on which your Vehicle is Running:
Not only the high security number plates but Delhi will also have colour stickers to Identify the fuel on which your Vehicle is Running. Following are the colors for the respective fuels:
- A light blue sticker for petrol and CNG-run vehicles
- Diesel vehicles will have orange stickers
The apex court will ensure that the colour sticker and high security number plates are installed on vehicles at the same time so that you wouldn’t have to visit the centres twice.
