Carry Digital Copies of Driving License & RC on Your Phone:
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has advised states to accept digital copies of Driving License & RC. This advisory is as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The seizing of such documents will present electronically through ‘eChallan’ system. Now, there will be no physical seizure of such documents. This digital way of verification of documents will ensure the genuineness of the documents. This will reduce the use of paper as well as help authority to carry a paperless governance.
These digital documents available on DigiLocker or mParivahan are legally approved & accepted. These are legal as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
What all Documents can you Carry Digitally on your Phone?
As per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, you as a driver or owner, need to produce your driving license or RC or insurance of your vehicle on demand of the authority.
Soon, the data of the insurance of new vehicles and renewal of insurance of vehicles will be uploaded by the Insurance Information Board (IIB) on the VAHAN database on a daily basis. The same will reflect on the mParivahan/eChallan app of the ministry.
Once, the vehicle registration details on the mParivahan/eChallan app contain the details of the policy which is in force, then, you will not have to carry a physical copy of the insurance certificate.
